Baber Mahal Revisited
Baber Mahal

Call it an architectural museum, Rana-era pastiche or a masterful reproduction of period pieces, Baber Mahal Revisited is the story of an unimaginable transformation-from cowshed to a palace look-alike shopping mall. Though Baber Mahal Revisited is restored in a neo-classical architecture, it has all what it takes to define luxury.

Baber Mahal

Art Council is one of the largest galleries in Kathmandu and boasts a huge hanger like building with free exhibitions but unfortunately no permanent collection. A big quiet place where you can really take the time to focus on one piece and let yourself be taken into its universe. An added bonus is that it is near the New Immigration Office and therefore is a great place to come to while you are waiting to renew your Visa.

Entering the "Baber Mahal Revisited", A former Rana Family palace, is a wonder in itself. This compound sized palace has been renovated and remodeled and now sports a trendy chic yet bohemian sort of look. Expensive tailors, art shops, restaurants and even fashionable bars can all be found in the small exquisite courtyards of this palace. The gallery itself is at the back right hand side of this mini mall, and although small, its refined style and location make it the most popular gallery in Kathmandu with over a year’s waiting list for artist reservations.
